Week 9- Social Tools and Cloud Computing

What is cloud computing? Being able to use server-based applications as a service rather than being tied to s specific device.

In class we had to create our own Googledoc. After using this tool I did a group project and communication was a lot easier. I will definately use this again. You can create a google doc after you have created a Gmail account. This prevents the problem of having to worry about your document not opening because you do not have the correct Microsoft edition.
We also created our own Delicious account. Delicious is a place where you can save your favorite sites and references. This can be extremely useful if you are trying to share with others or look something up quickly.

Check out my Delicious!

Create your own Gmail account and use google docs!

How does this relate to PR?

In public relations you are constantly in contact with other workers and clients. Googledoc allows for you to send documents back and forth, with easy access. Delicious can be handy to anyone, because it allows you to save your favorite articles. I will use this to save all of my PR articles and news.

Week 8- Podcasting

What is podcasting?

In class we were given multiple ways to make visual things, but we were also taught how to make our own sounds. It was so cool to get to manipulate different sounds and make your own beat. I used garageband in order to create my own sound. I really like regae music, so I started off with a regae background. I then added in other instruments to make my sound unique. You can check my sound out h

Podcasting and PR?
Making your own sounds is basically used for fun, but you could maybe use your own sound for a presentation. I will probably not get the opportunity to use this feature a lot during my career, but I will definately get to use the visual literacy tools.

Week 7- Digital Story telling

In class we were shown numerous videos exhibiting digital story telling. We were shown a fascinating video, that was actually an advertisement for Stride gum.

After watching this video I was jealous that Matt got to travel the world, debt free!
We were also shown videos where people put music with video games, in order to tell a story. This could be extremely useful for teachers, because instead of reading a play, a video could be played. The students could then discuss the Freytag's pyramid and fill in the blanks of rising action, climax, falling action, etc.
In class we were required to create our own digital story, so I decided to create a slide show of pictures of my trip to Tenn.! Check it out!
Digital Storytelling and PR?
After watching the Matt video, I realized that advertising on YouTube is becomming a huge trend. People are no longer getting their information from reading, but everything is online. Creating a PR campaign online, is the new wave!

Week 6- Visual Literacy

In class we were assigned a photoshop tutorial. Before this, I had never used photoshop before, probably because of the high price of the program. Ever since I started experimenting with photoshop, I have been addicted.

Here is a video that shows you how to work with eyes in photographs. This is an interesting video, and I found it fun to manipulate the eyes in my own photographs.

I recommend that if you are interested in photoshop to try the free 30-day trial. Here

PR and visual literacy?
Understanding how to manipulate pictures is very useful in PR. In PR we are required to create fact sheets, brochures, etc. that are used as promotional packages. By using photoshop and other programs in order to make creative documents, it can make a campaign more appealing. There is actually a specific field of PR, that is digital communication. This person is not only in charge of blog manipulation, but creating ads as well.
